San Juan Island Fire Dept. battled a wildland fire on Eagle Crest Road off of Miller Road on San Juan Island this afternoon (June 27, 2003). Harold and Christine Rist live next door to the property and called 911 around 1:30 p.m. A trailer and a shed are located on the property which is owned by part-time residents. The fire was under control shortly after 3 p.m.

Firefighters access to the site was limited by a narrow drive. Firefighters managed to deploy an engine equipped with foam up the drive. Tankers and other engines were stationed on Miller Road.

The fire surrounding the trailer and propane tanks was extinguished with the foam. Firefighters equipped with water lines and chainsaws battled the fire as it spread down a ridge. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
