Homeowner, firefighters contain roof blaze

Greg Black grabbed a garden house and battled a fire in the roof of his San Juan Valley home about 2 p.m. today on San Juan Island. Black's response to the fire, which started near a chimney, likely helped save his home, said San Juan County Fire Marshal Rick Galer. A San Juan County Fire District No. 3 crew knocked down the fire in the old farmhouse at 1251 Valley Farms Rd.
