This year's canoe journey was titled "Journey with Our Ancestors." According to the Canoe Journey 2004 Web site, the journey "is not a vacation, in any sense of the word, It is a JOURNEY, an opportunity for personal growth, a collection of memories, and truly unforgettable experiences." Canoe journey to stop in San Juans

On July 27 - 29, traditional Native American sea-going canoes will travel through San Juan County waters. The community is welcome to attend all canoe arrival and departure ceremonies and community potluck dinners. The tribal canoes will travel: Tuesday, July 27, 2004

The San Juan crossing is one leg of a larger canoe Journey that ends August 4, 2004 in Chemainus, British Columbia. The Canoe Journey is a significant cultural event for many Canadian and Washington State tribes and serves as an effective anti-drug and alcohol alternative for Indian Country youth and adults. SCHEDULE OF EVENTS All arrival/departure times may vary due to tide/fog/wind. Call 378-2319 to confirm the estimated arrival times.
Beverages and BBQ items (fish/veggie/burgers, buns, and condiments) will be provided. The community is asked to bring a large potluck item to share. If your last name begins with the letter A-K, please bring a salad; last names beginning with L-Z, please bring a dessert. All islanders are invited to attend! All events are alcohol and drug free.
