STORIES ABOUT PONY CLUB

Competition

San Juan County Pony Club

San Juan County Pony Club is a non-profit, 501(C)3 organization, one of 625 clubs nationwide.

The club's purpose is to teach horsemanship and the care of horses to young people through the age of 21. Pony Club members learn to ride and care for their mounts and become responsible people, while having fun. Although Pony Club emphasizes instruction over competition, members do compete on teams at rallies, where they are awarded points for horse care as well as riding. At rallies, there is no help from parents. As members progress through the ratings, they participate in the spirit of "giving back" by teaching and helping the other pony clubbers.

Meeting times - Unmounted kids meetings are held the first Monday of the month; Parents meetings are the second Monday of the month at 5:30 pm, at Anne Sheridan's photography studio. Non-members are invited to attend unmounted meetings and watch lessons. The mounted meetings and lessons are available on a calendar. Contact a member to confirm meeting time and place.

Ways people can help - volunteer to give presentations to members, help with summer camp, help with jumping day at the County fair, help with fundraising efforts, sponsor a child to join, sponsor a visiting instructor, volunteer to judge a show, donate equipment to the club, volunteer at ratings, sponsor a team to attend a rally or National Championships, lease a horse to a member, donate instruction or instructional materials. We are always looking for Pony Club alumni to join us and serve as role models.
