A quartet of Friday Harbor High School upperclassmen kept the storm clouds out of their noggins and won the Ninth Annual Knowledge Bowl in the San Juan Community Theatre Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003. The event funds grants made by the San Juan Public Schools Foundation.

The Juniors and Seniors trailed the Soroptimists 435-405 before the bonus question but wagered 400 points. They correctly answered the Final Jeopardy-style question: "Thunderstorms originate from what type of cloud?"

Cumulonimbus

On the secret of her team's success, Junior-Senior Capt. Bridget Hudson said, "I wrote down the answers that they told me. I'm very good at keeping the answers covered from the prying eyes around us."

The Eighth Grade team also responded correctly to the bonus question and finished second with 539 and 2/3 points. The Soroptomists opted not to bet on the bonus question and placed third with 435 points.

The other teams finished:

4. San Juan Lions 350

5. Kiwanis 165

6. Freshmen-Sophomores 2.
