Orcas Senior Center ActivitiesEXHIBITSposted 02/26/04 This large, varied exhibit shows two distinct and complementary photographic styles and techniques, from portraits to landscapes and from film to digital. McCoy works with a traditional single-lens reflex, Floren with a digital camera. McCoy, a long-time Orcasian, has been a serious photographer for more than 10 years. Her pictures have won top awards in county and regional competition. In 2002, she was a finalist in a world-wide Canon-sponsored contest, and her entry was included in the resulting "Best Photographs" book. She currently has two pictures in Eastsound's Lambiel Museum. Floren's photography is strongly influenced by his long involvement in abstract painting. Even though most of his subject matter is literal, the composition of his images follows strong abstract patterns. He takes a very simple, direct approach, seldom deviating from the hand-held camera, and using only available light. CLASSES and WORKSHOPS:March classes at Orcas Senior Center include:
