New mural installed on
The Whale Museum in Friday Harbor

The Whale Museum and Kelley Balcomb-Bartok installed a new mural on the front wall of the Whale Museum last week. Six designs were submitted the Whale Museum and final selection was made by the entire staff.

The 16' x 12' full color mural took Balcomb-Bartok nearly a month to paint. The design is loosely based on a painting by children book artist Paul Owen Lewis. Vern Howard donated the use of studio space.

Balcomb-Bartok would like to see more murals throughout Friday Harbor. He notes towns like Anacortes and Chemainus, British Columbia, convey elements of history through murals, and at the same time beautify and give character to small towns.
