Attention Teens! Teen Tech Week (March 10-16) is a national initiative designed to celebrate technology and help you learn how to use technology ethically and safely. And your library is a hot spot for things technological! From eBooks and eAudiobooks to databases, homework help and more, the library is a hub where you can plug in and stay connected.

How about trying those databases on the Library’s Homework Help page? You’re stumped trying to write an essay on the novel The Scarlet Letter. Maybe the dog chewed up your class notes. What to do? Go to www.sjlib.org, click on the KIDS page, then Homework Help. Voila!

Literary Reference supplies literary criticism from authoritative sources on Hawthorne’s themes of good and evil, atonement, and revenge. You’ll ace your essay.

Your science teacher wants a current article on green vehicles. Many articles are not searchable without a paid subscription.

Under Homework Help, click on EBSCOhost Research Databases two times, then MasterFile Premier, and enter your search. Ta da! You have an article titled The Coming of Intelligent Green Vehicles in the January/February 2013 edition of Futurist magazine.

Need to print, download or email the article? No problem. It even comes with a handy citation for your bibliography.

Curious about the huge meteorite that hit Russia in February? Use the eLibrary database to search newspapers, magazines, books, maps, websites, pictures, video/audio, and transcripts all in one search.

You want to read an older book for your next book report, but the library doesn’t own it and it’s out of print? Submit an online Interlibrary Loan request through OCLC First Search. We’ll see your request and do our best to get the book here quickly.

Now, I know you use the Internet a lot. You use search engines like Google, Yahoo, MSN, Bing, etc., and you’re good at it. Just remember that on the Internet, you don’t always know if you’re getting accurate information or not.

By using the library’s electronic resources, you’re consulting sources designed specifically for student research. They are authoritative, kept up-to-date, and citable. And those are things your teachers appreciate. We hope you will, too.
