I wish I could report that we took Lopez to the cleaners, however they showed up with their A game and gave our Friday Harbor golfers a lesson in ball management. Lopez Senior Michael Reeve was co-medalist with Friday Harbor’s Kendra Meeker, both shooting 42s.

Lopez posted three other good scores with; James Brant 43, Chase Schober 45 and Brytt Weber 45.

Lopez High School (42,43,45,45: 175) Friday Harbor High School (42,45,48,55: 190)

Other local players posted the following scores; Riley Rouser 45, Jesse Kolowitz 48, Eli Baker 56, Jess Hardgrove 55, Xander Chriton 57, Keegan Hebert 59, Austin Cotton 60.

Freshman Jesse Kolowitz broke the magic 50 for the first time in his short golfing career. By breaking 50 he is now eligible for post season competition. I expect a few more of these first year players to follow in his footsteps.

Devan Rousar continues to play solid golf and posted a 61. Lopez Ladies Marne Cook 53 and Sarah Reeves 56 posted good scores. Erin McCauley and Maddie Williamson continue to show improvement. The new golfers hung in there to finish the round. After reviewing their cards they had more holes in single digits then double.

Now for the best event of the day: Long time Lopez Coach Richard Tetu, received a phone call from a ferry worker telling him one of the players left a backpack on the ferry and requested he come to pick it up as soon as possible. The coach helped get everyone off and ran down to retrieve the backpack from the ferry office.

On the way, the person called back and told him the backpack had been moved to the sheriff’s office because he didn’t retrieve it soon enough. The Coach went to the sheriff’s office but they knew nothing about a backpack. The person called back again to tell the coach the sheriff office was closed so they left it at Vic’s. At about this point, the Coach was beginning to catch on and asked “Who is this really?” APRIL FOOL! One of his former golf team members played a good one on him! - Jack Riceteam
