Here’s how my day started: the only other customer in a local convenience store was wearing nothing but his silk long johns. When the clerk asked the man where his clothes were, he said that he had them in his truck, but they were heavy and the silk felt really nice and warm. Not wanting any further information about the subject at hand, I paid for my orange juice and breakfast burrito and headed for the ferry.

Much like silk thermals, the passenger cabin of the ferry was nice and warm and perfect for a nap. Unfortunately, a young toddler with strong lungs was making it known that he wanted to go back down to his car. His mother tried everything she could think of to distract him. However nothing worked until he came to my bench, and I winked at him. Suddenly, he climbed up onto the bench next to me, put his head on my lap, closed his eyes, and either slept or played possum until we approached the mainland and his mother really did take him back to the car.

When I arrived for my first appointment and entered the building, lights were flashing and an alarm was sounding. The hallway doors were closed, and no one was at the reception desk. I didn’t know what to do. Then a man in a suit came into the building, opened one of the hallway doors, and walked down the corridor. So I followed his lead until a gruff man in uniform escorted us into a room and told us to stay there. Five minutes later, an intercom voice announced that the fire alarm was canceled.

I completed two appointments, did some shopping, visited a friend in the hospital, went to the food co-op for lunch, and then decided to enjoy the sunshine before going back to the ferry. So I drove to a riverside park and found a picnic table with a lovely view. Just as I was slicing a co-op apple with my pocket knife, I was propositioned. Declining the offer, I asked myself, “Who says life is boring?”

What are the unusual, very interesting, definitely not boring events in your life?

If you can’t recall any, what’s going on?

Are you paying attention or tuning out?

How many can you notice in a single day? (Shall we have a contest?)
