Jenny Ledford doesn't care what you think. How you think, now that's another matter. And what a difference that makes.
Just ask a couple of the people who have taken her free Strategic Thinking Seminar. Michael Perrin, who lost 85 pounds and is rapidly accomplishing other goals is one.
He said, "I learned more than all my other years of education...Thinking is a much more conscious process than we are taught." He said he learned from Ledford about ways the brain works which can help a person achieve goals. "We have abilities we can strengthen if we nurture them," he said.
Another participant said attending the series of six classes helped her come out of the fog she was in following the death of her mother. She also quit her 41-year smoking habit.
That's just an inkling of what the classes have done. Another islander quit her job, packed up and moved to California to live the life she's always dreamed about.
So what is the Strategic Thinking Seminar, who is Jenny Ledford and what is it she knows?
The classes are free. The only supplies you need are a spiral notebook (preferably the 3-subject kind) and a report folder (the type with pockets to slip papers into.
Enrollment is limited. More than half of the 55 spaces are already taken. Call Jenny at 370.5314 to reserve a space.
The series of six classes begins Sunday January 13. They last three hours each from 5 to 8 p.m. and participants must commit to attending all of the six sessions since the material builds on the previous sessions.
The dates are January 13, 20, 27 and February 10, 17, 24. There isn't a class on February 3 since is it Super Bowl Sunday. The classes are in the Transformation Church space next to Ravenhill by San Juan Healthcare. At her seminars, Ledford presents a body of information in layman's terms which she has synthesized from more than 250 sources. Years ago, during a lunch break at a conference she was attending in San Francisco, she showed Dr. Albert Bandiera of Stanford University then the top social psychologist in the world, her 45-minute synopsis of his work. Recounting the story, she said she was getting nervous toward the end of her presentation, something that is unusual for her.
She said he was quiet then asked her if she knew what the men with the headsets in the booths at the U.N. were doing. She said translating. He told her she was doing the same thing with his work. Translating it so it reaches more people than just academics or researchers. He offered to send her his most recent research.
Participants will hear Ledford talk about 26 concepts. It won't be done in a droning style. She has a "goofy southern sense of humor" and uses story telling as part of the way to convey the information.
In an interview last week, Ledford said, "Come with an open mind. Figure out where you are stubbing your toe and making it harder for yourself."
