Elemental Senses, an exploration in painting and sculpture by two San Juan Island based artists, opens October 5 at Waterworks Gallery in Friday Harbor and runs through October 27.
The show features painting by Dana Roberts and mixed media sculpture by Matthew Gray Palmer.
Roberts, a painter in her early 60s, believes that painting is a conversation, a talking with the unknown. Dana paints shapes colors and patterns which shift and jump off the canvas.
Palmer, a self-taught artist since the age of 6, believes in the wonders of the exploring matter/energy and transformations. His unique perspective and vision allow his sculptures to appear organically grown, adding the juxtaposition of time and space.
Art is a communion between the artist and the observer, sometimes we get it and sometimes we don't. We are all different.
A reception for the artists takes place from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, October 5 at the gallery located at 315 Argyle Avenue in Friday Harbor.
