UPDATE: After missing out by one question - which it turned out they had answered correctly - but that is beside the point - the A team is moving on to the national competition because Garfield High School is unable to compete due to a scheduling problem. So Friday Harbor High School's A team is still in the game.

Friday Harbor High School's 'A' team - returning players Libby Snow, Emily Guard, Gavin Guard, and Michael Barsamian - missed 1st place by one buzzer question to Garfield High School's 'A' Team in the 10-hour-long Washington's National Ocean Sciences "Orca Bowl" competition.

The 'B' Team - Max Haenel, Conrad Bormann, Kori Rasmussen, and Ellery Von Dassow- also made a very admirable 4th place, considering this is the first ever Orca Bowl for players.

The 'A' team was awarded an expedition with Foss Waterway Seaport aboard an educational dive boat for placing second in the competition.

Though the marine science trivia questions range from the very relevant to slightly obscure, Orca Bowl is a fun way for high school students to increase their depth of knowledge about oceanography/fisheries sciences, interact with volunteer students and professionals working in these fields, and to learn about pursuing marine sciences in their continued education.
