OLYMPIA – The state legislators from the 40th district - Rep. Jeff Morris, D-Mount Vernon, Rep. Kristine Lytton, D-Anacortes, Sen. Kevin Ranker, D-Orcas Island, - are introducing resolutions in the House and Senate asking the State Transportation Commission to rename the Skagit River Bridge in honor of fallen State Patrol Trooper Sean O'Connell.
O'Connell, a 16-year State Patrol veteran, was working traffic control on his motorcycle when the crash occurred at Fir Island and Greenview roads in Conway. The route is being used as one of the detours around the collapsed bridge.
The 40th legislative district delegation is requesting that the bridge be renamed the Trooper #1076, Sean M. O'Connell Memorial Bridge. They stated:
"Renaming the bridge in Officer O’Connell's honor is just a small token of our gratitude for his 16 years of dedication to our state, but it doesn't even begin to display the level of appreciation all Washingtonians have for his service or the heartache and compassion we feel for his family in the wake of his loss."
