The library has recently expanded its shelving capacity for its popular and growing collection of DVDs.
New wood shelves with a low profile were made locally to match existing wood shelves at the ends of the adult fiction book sections. These new shelves are at the ends of the adult non-fiction sections and are adjustable so that they can be used for displays in the future as needed, but in the meantime will house the non-fiction DVD collection. The non-fiction DVD collection contains documentaries, how to videos, operas, plays (for example, our Shakespeare collection), travel and cooking shows, among a variety of other topics.
The fiction DVDs remain at the front of the library behind the new adult fiction and new adult non-fiction book shelves. The fiction DVD collection has been spread across what was the entire DVD section so that we have now have more room for displays, our patrons have more room to browse, and for the foreseeable future at least, we don’t have to use the dreaded top or bottom shelves. The fiction DVD collection contains movies, television series, and musicals to name a few subjects in this broad collection.
Now that the library has moved back to our old ILS (Integrated library System) Millennium, it should be much easier to place these DVDs and books from our collection on hold or to renew them. If you need assistance, please contact the library in person or by phone or email. Please go to our website at http://www.sjlib.org for more information on the ILS change. We want to help everyone adjust to the return of our old system as smoothly as possible. While you are in, take a walk around the library to notice the new shelves for our non-fiction DVD collection. You’ll see that they are arranged in standard Dewey order by subject and that this order corresponds to the attached bookshelves.
New non-fiction DVDs on order or recently added to the collection include:Civilization: West and the Rest, The First Grader, Half the Sky, Into the Abyss, and Invisible War. New fiction DVDs on order or recently added to the collection include: Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Big Year, Homeland, Injustice (from the creator of the ever popular Foyle’s War), Monsieur Lazhar, and Wallander 3.
The autumn weather is just right to curl up with a good read or a good movie from your library’s collection. And with the long Holiday weekend approaching, be sure to load up on extra books and DVDs as the library will be closed on Thanksgiving day and the day after Thanksgiving. Happy holiday to all!
