(Washington, D.C.) – Today, Tuesday, February 26th, Senate Budget Committee Chairman Patty Murray (D-WA) will deliver a speech on the Senate floor in support of the Democratic proposal to replace the across the board budget cuts from sequestration. It can be viewed live at approximately 2 p.m. PST on cspan2. (This may change depending on floor schedule).
Murray will discuss the ways the Democratic proposal would protect families and seniors in Washington State from bearing the burden of deficit reduction alone.
Murray will show a “WARN Notice,” given to indicate pending layoffs or furloughs, demonstrating potential consequence of Republicans’ unwillingness to compromise.
She will talk about the fact that this proposal contains a balanced mix of responsible spending cuts and new revenue from the wealthiest Americans, and she will call on her Republican colleagues to work with Democrats on a balanced and bipartisan replacement.
