The San Juan Public Schools Foundation has just released the totals for their 2012 fundraising. The generous support of islanders has enabled the organization to continue supporting education on San Juan Island in numerous ways.
The Phone-A-Thon, held on October 2 and 3, 2012 brought in $42,895 in pledges. Considering that the second night of the event coincided with the first Presidential debates, when many islanders didn’t want to be torn away from their TV sets, this is a fantastic number.
Almost all of those pledges have been collected, with only $3,460 outstanding. If you pledged but haven’t sent in your payment, please do so.
In addition, the Foundation’s Business Partnership program had its best year in history, with $41,530 pledged from companies around Friday Harbor. With these funds, the Public Schools Foundation will help keep our local elementary, middle and high schools in the upper echelon of the state.
Some examples of recent Public Schools Foundation grants include support for math, social studies and art programs.
