San Juan County Marine Resources Committee
The terms of three San Juan County Marine Resources Committee members expire in February, 2013.
Jim Slocomb, who has been on the MRC since 1996, the year it was formed, said he intends to apply to be reappointed. Michael Durland, who was first appointed in 2005, is finishing up his second term. He also plans to apply for reappointment.
Kit Rawson who has been on the MRC since 2001 said he is not going to reapply for the position.
Slocomb said he started as the town representative 17 years ago after Warren Jones, who attended the MRC's first three meetings, decided he didn't want the position. Slocomb was the town's representative until he was elected chair.
The Town Council objected to their representative chairing the committee and Slocomb changed his position to an "at large" one which he has held ever since.
The three MRC positions haven't been posted yet as vacant on the county's advisory committee website.
The webpage does have information about county advisory committees and a list of openings. An application form can be downloaded.
