The Coast Guard rescues a man with his dog, June 14, 2012, after the two became stranded on a small island in the Coos River, Ore., approximately 3 miles east of the North Bend Bridge, the day before. An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station North Bend hoisted the man and his dog to safety. U.S. Coast Guard video by Air Station North Bend.

Due to shallow water, Coast Guard Station Coos Bay was unable to reach the man who stated he was hypoglycemic, out of food, feeling weak and unable to refloat his 16-foot pleasure craft at high tide.
