Terri Brown, of Friday Harbor is San Juan County's Food Safety and Preservation Advisor. She recently completed training and certification qualifying her to answer questions from county residents concerning food safety and preservation.
Training for this new Washington State University Extension volunteer program took place over a period of four weeks and included three days of hands-on lab training on the WSU campus in Pullman.
Among the topics covered were food-borne illness, canning basics, freezing & drying, preparing and coping with emergencies and disasters, and storing the garden harvest.
