San Juan County Council did not reverse their earlier decision regarding the update to the aerial photography. They had passed a motion giving the county manager the authority to proceed with a contract if the IT Director was able to obtain one-third of the funding from other agencies and buy-in from the Fire Department Association.
IT Director Stan Matthews met both requirements.
Council member Bob Jarman reiterated his opposition to the oblique photographs believing they violated privacy. Other council members acknowledged political pressure from citizens mentioning privacy concerns.
Matthews stressed the help the oblique photographs would provide to public safety agencies. He also said other counties did not make the information publicly available.
