San Juan Island Library is providing new technology training opportunities. The Washington Microsoft IT Academy (ITA) will provide access without charge to a wide range of Microsoft online courses and learning resources. Microsoft IT Academy program provides industry-leading technology skills to help bridge the skills gap.

The IT Academy will also be available online. Participants may choose to access the coursework at the library or from home computers. Course certification is also available but will need to be paid for by those taking the courses.

With Microsoft IT Academy the library can provide online curriculum on fundamental technology skills. The courses offered are critical to be successful in today’s technologically evolving world. The San Juan Island Library can provide these online classes at no cost to the community, through a partnership developed by the Washington State Library and Microsoft Corporation.

For Educators and staff: Professional development, a full curriculum for teaching technology courses, and learning tools.

For Students: Technology skills and certifications to be college and career ready for today’s technology-centered job market.

The online ITA training expands the technology training program available at the Library. In-person classes will continue to be available, and islanders may currently sign up for a course on getting started using computers. Library staff are often available to help with technology training, such as establishing an email account or using ebooks on a one-on-one basis, and programs in these and other areas are also offered.

Library cards are free to island residents with proof of residency. Bring ID, and something that shows residence on San Juan Island. For people who cannot demonstrate residency, guest cards are available for a small fee, which also enables the library to serve our neighbors on outer islands.

In addition to its collections of materials to loan, the library also provides public access computers and WiFi. Library hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
