Receipt of a letter from the state's Department of Commerce is all that is standing in the way of the county officially announcing the long-awaited news that the county is GMA compliant.
Community Development and Planning Director Shireene Hale told the county Council during their Monday, January 14 retreat that Senior Planner Colin Maycock was told in a phone call with state Commerce Dept. staff their records show the county had reached the milestone now that the Critical Areas Ordinance was adopted.
The county has been working towards compliance since agreeing to plan under the Growth Management Act in the early 90s. The state staff member said a letter confirming the news would be sent to the county.
County staff had believed the transportation element of the county's Comprehensive Plan needed to be completed before compliance was achieved.
