The filing period for candidates for the November General Election is closed and 20 races are unopposed. Eleven positions have no candidates. And one, the race for Town of Friday Harbor council member position #4, has three candidates necessitating a primary election.

Barring sucessful write-in elections, Carrie Lacher is re-elected as Mayor of Friday Harbor, Anna Maria de Freitas has another term on the town council.

With 1,300 ballots still to be counted in the San Juan County April 23 election, District 1 County Council candidate Bob Jarman 2,827 (50.92%) is leading Lovel Pratt 2,714 (48.88%); in District 2 Rick Hughes  2,831 (50.78%) is leading Lisa Byers 2,731 (48.99%).  

Jamie Stephens 3,021 (56.92%) is the council member for District 3 with a solid win over Brian McClerren 2,260 (42.59%).

Of the more than 11,000 ballots sent out for the April 23, 2013 mail-in election, 5,349 or 44.7% have been cast as of Monday, April 22.

The ballots deposited in ballot drop off boxes on Orcas and Lopez Islands have not been collected since April 12 and won't be collected until 8 p.m. April 23. So those votes won't be tabulated Tuesday.

San Juan County Councilmember Bob Jarman ended up with a 62 vote win over former Council member Lovel Pratt in the final total released Wednesday, May 1. Jarman garnered 3,421 (50.46%) to Pratt's 3,359 (49.54%) in the race to become District 1 Council member.

It's an all-male San Juan County Council. With only 60 votes left to count, incumbent Bob Jarman has 3,372 votes to Lovel Pratt's 3302 for the Council District 1 race.

The Lopez school bond lost by 199 votes. There are 848 (57.81%) against and 619 (42.19%) for the issuance of the general obligation bonds. There are 2,024 registered voters in the Lopez School District. Results by Precinct

Without a doubt Bob Jarman, the current District 1 Council member, is the candidate with the most knowledge of the county. During his 30 years with the phone company, his work took him to every island. He’s driven on every road and landed on all the airstrips.

Biggest challenge: Jarman says the biggest challenge facing the is putting to rest the controversies and lawsuits surrounding the recently adopted Critical Areas Ordinance (CAO).
