The 12-year renewal of the 1 percent Real Estate Excise Tax for the San Juan County Land Bank passed 52.72% to 47.28%. The 4,134 votes for the measure outnumbered the 3,708 votes against by 426 votes. When the Land Bank was renewed 12 years ago, it passed by 73 percent.
As of November 14, 2011, there are approximately 30 ballots left to count in the elections office. The voter turnout was 69.09 percent. The election will be certified on November 29, 2011.
The Land Bank Commission holds its annual retreat on Friday, November 18 from 8:45 a.m. to 2:40 p.m. at the Outlook Inn, 171 Main Street, Eastsound, Orcas Island. The commission's regular monthly meeting will be held just before the retreat. It'll begin at 8 a.m. with public comment at 8:15 a.m.
Both meetings and retreats by public agencies are open to the public.
