The golf weather gods were shining upon us today as we traveled to Lopez to play our final match of the year, April 30.
The Lopez team took advantage of local knowledge to hand Friday Harbor its final loss of the year, Lopez 171 Friday Harbor 208. Brytt Weber was medalist for the event with a score of 40. He was followed closely by teammate Sam Heller with a 41. Michael Reeve fired a 43, James Brant 47 and TJ Hobi finished with a 48.
As for our local team, Eli Baker and Wade Tracy tied for low score at 51. They were followed by Jesse Kolowitz at 52 and Jesse Hargrove with a 54. Rounding out the Friday Harbor squad was Austin Cotton 60 and Kegan Hebert with a 62.
Kendra Meeker continued her good play by posting a solid round of 40. Lopez Sarah Reese followed with a nice 46. The other two Lopez players posted Marne Cook 51 and Samantha Swanson 54. Erin McCauley from Friday Harbor played her first match off the island. As a first year player she posted a respectable 66 for nine holes.
We are now done playing matches against other teams and were moving into the tournament season. This Friday, May 3rd, we will be playing the 1B/2B/1A League Tournament at the Gallery Course on Whidby Island. For use, this is just a practice tournament, a place to gain some 18 hole experience and maybe some bragging rights if we were to win the event.
Next we head to North Bellingham on May 9, for the 2013 1A District Golf Tournament. The low 14 Girls and 27 boys will advance to the Tri-District Tournament at Gold Mountain in Bremerton on May 9th.
The 1A Tri District Qualifier for the State Tournament will be played at Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Washington. The low 17 Girls and the low 33 Boys will advance to the Big Show which is the State Tournament.
The Washington High School 1A State Golf Tournament will be hosted by Lake Spanaway on May 21 & 22. After the first day the field will be cut in half and only the low 20 Girls will be allowed to compete on the final day.
You can see from this schedule that only the top players from the state will have the talent to advance to the final day of the State Tournament. Kendra has made it to the final day of the State tournament the last two years and I expect her to be in one of those final groups teeing off on the morning of May 22.
