A house in the WIllis Lane neighborhood near Obstruction Pass on Orcas Island was destroyed in a fire early this morning, Friday, June 7.
Twenty-five Orcas Island Fire Department firefighters with ten response vehicles were dispatched at approximately 3:16 a.m. in response to the report of a house fire with explosions.
Arriving responders found the home to be fully involved in fire and quickly began fire suppression operations. The owner reported the house was unoccupied.
No injuries to civilians or responders. Damage was confined to the home and a detached carport.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the San Juan County Fire Marshal.
Orcas Island Fire and Rescue encourages everyone to have working smoke detectors and an escape plan in case of a fire. Free smoke detectors are available at OIFR Station 21.
