Two Orcas Island men cleaning out a storage unit the Rosario area on Tuesday came across grenades and a rocket propelled grenade and called sheriff’s deputies. Deputies secured the scene and called the Washington State Patrol Bomb Squad.
In our efforts to make for a safe and memorable Fourth of July weekend in the islands, the Sheriff’s Office will have extra patrols deployed throughout the county. Deputies will be highly visible at holiday events, including the parades, fireworks displays and other community gatherings.
Firearms, cash, drugs, scales and packaging materials were seized at a home in the Rosario area of Orcas Island on Friday, June 13. A K-9 team from the Bellingham Police Department assisted San Juan County Sheriff's detectives and deputies in executing the search warrant.

A used hypodermic syringe was found discarded Thursday in Sunken Park. The discovery was reported to the Sheriff’s Office and the syringe promptly removed and properly discarded by the responding deputy.
A 1990 Toyota 4-Runner, driven by a newly licensed 16-year-old girl, flipped over after she failed to negotiate a curve on Turn Point Road and over-corrected. The single-vehicle crash occured on San Juan Island Wednesday afternoon, February 12.
