Self-haul of garbage is provided in the bid submitted by Cimarron Inc. for Orcas Island solid waste services. Recyclables, dropped off commingled by customers, would be separated by employees at a conveyor belt and then baled.
The Exchange would continue to operate at the site. All services currently provided would continue. Medical waste and hazardous waste disposal were not included.
The proposal includes an option for a reduction of tipping fees with a modern, energy efficient, environmentally sound, zero-emission gasification facility. If the community desired, Kentec Energy Inc. and Evergreen Engineering would pursue the possibility.
Kentec has eight such facilities and more than 40 accumulated years in gasification.
Gasification is the conversion of biomass and municipal solid waste into hydrogen and other combustible gases.
