$1.6 million dollars of donated dollars have gone into the infrastructure for the San Juan Island Community Fields. Now it's time to raise the funds to get the park open and the first phase of the community sports fields finished - the multi-use athletic field. The goal is to have it open to the public by September 1, 2012.
The Fields of Dreams Fundraiser takes place from 4 p.m. to ... April 21 at the San Juan County Fairgrounds. A BBQ dinner, beer garden, dancing and live music - the Good Husbands, Shotgun Messengers, Laura Lee Chorba, and the One More Time Band - will make this a fun-filled family oriented event.
Live and silent auctions will take place. Items are needed for both - stop by Ace Hardware (Donny Galt), Finish Line Auto (Tami Ashcraft) or Friday Electric (Staci Baker) to donate items.

Students should be able to think of a few things.

The entire complex, when fully complete, will feature six practice and playing fields including, one football field, two soccer fields, two softball fields, one baseball field, a mile of walking trails, a children's playground area, picnic areas, and a clubhouse with restrooms and concessions.

June Arnold, a member of the steering committee, said the group realized trying to complete everything now was overwhelming. Now they are handling it "as taking one bite of an elephant at a time". Don Galt Sr. who was operating as fundraiser, builder, organizer, etc. is being given a break. His one man herculean efforts have been replaced by a four-member board - Donny Galt, Rob Cuomo, Staci Baker, Tami Ashcraft and a steering committee - June and Joe Arnold, Donny Galt and Rob Cuomo.
If you can't attend, don't have an item to donate, donations for the Field of Dreams can be made at http://sanjuanfields.com/donate-now/
