Friday Harbor Town Council will hold a public hearing to consider revisions to Title 17 of the Friday Harbor Municipal Code regarding regulations for marijuana retail, production and processing within the corporate limits of the Town.
The Town desires to comply with Initiative 502 and implement the will of the voters to the extent allowed by law.
I-502 requires that no facility for marijuana retailing, processing or producing be located within 1,000 feet of the perimeter of any “elementary or secondary school, playground, recreation center or facility, child care center, public park, public transit center, or library, or any game arcade admission to which is not restricted to persons aged twenty-one years or older."
Due to the nature of producing and processing marijuana, the Town desires to exercise its zoning authority and police powers to ensure that such operations comply with standard zoning requirements and health and safety standards.
The public is invited to comment on a proposed ordinance that would limit these activities, as consistent with I-502, to the light industrial zone.
The public hearing is scheduled on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at 5:30 pm at Town Hall, 60 Second Street, Friday Harbor, WA 98250. A copy of the draft ordinance is available by contacting the Town Clerk at 378-2810; and will be made available at www.fridayharbor.org
