Supporting Dan Gillespie for county Clerk

For those of us who don't have (or want) much to do with our county court system, I've puzzled a bit over who to vote for as new Clerk of the Court.

Mary Jean Cahail has served us all so well for so long in that office that no "issues" have become apparent: no scandal, no problems, no public criticism whatsoever.

So when a couple of us took Mary Jean out for a 'thank you' lunch the other day, we asked her advice on her replacement. Without hesitation, she recommended Dan Gillespie, the current head of the county elections department - and someone I have worked happily with for several years in the endless election cycles I manage to get myself involved with around here.

"Lawyers know how to work this system," she said, "but Dan is the one who can make sure this system works for ordinary island citizens, too. I worked a lot with Dan when he was Recorder here. He is really smart and will be very good as Clerk."

I am constantly impressed with the courtesy and professionalism of our county and town employees. Gillespie fits that mold to a T. He runs a fine elections office - I know he will bring those same skills to the court offices. I urge you to join me in voting for him as the new Clerk of the Court.
