Thanks to all for supporting the WolverinesFirst, I wanted to say thank you to Matt and the San Juan islander staff for their wonderful coverage of the Wolverine's baseball season. Friends and relatives around the state and elsewhere appreciated being able to get the news over the net and follow their progress through the season, and especially the tournament. Next, I want to say thank you to all the fans that turned out to support the baseball players. On several occasions we heard comments about what a large group the team had, and about the sportsmanlike conduct of the Wolverine supporters, especially at the state championship tournament. After the final tournament game, a collection was taken up to throw a dinner party for the team and fans at which a great time was had by all (except perhaps some of those who went swimming reluctantly). For all of you who contributed to this event, thank you very much for your help in celebrating the team's great season. I want to thank Julie Ross for all of her work as "team mom" and all of the other parents and community members who gave of their time to support this team. Cal Johnson deserves credit for his hard work on behalf of the team, making sure they get where they need to be on time, and making arrangerments for playoff accomodations. He has to deal with the strictures of the ferry schedule and with mainland schedulers who don't always understand what those limitations mean for the boys in terms of getting there and getting home. Thank you, Cal. (And thanks to Mike and Teresa for safe transport to and from the games). I want to thank Rich and Steve for being such great coaches. They inspire these boys and teach them so much. They are both truly a credit to the Friday Harbor High School athletic department and to the San Juan Island community. And finally, I want to thank the Friday Harbor Wolverine baseball players for playing an exciting baseball season, and for being such a wonderful group of young men. | |||
