Woman drowns in Eastsound

Regarding Carla Shaffer

Dear Editor,

posted 1/28/2006
Oh, the silence is deafening Dear Carla! So many questions unanswered! So many hearts are broken! Where are our Island Rainbow Warriors of God? Of Truth? Of Justice? Of Peace? of Light? Fear stalks the Island making it easier for some to believe that one woman's life of Beauty, of Love, of Compassion and of Courage ended in self-destructive madness.

Are we a microcosm of the macrocosm? Are we a reflection of a world in which lies are the accepted norm? Where questioning is swiftly silenced by intimidation? Where Fear dominates over Integrity?

Martin Luther King said, "Our Lives Begin To End The Day We Become Silent About The Things That Matter."

For Carla: Beauty Before Me, Beauty Behind Me, Beauty on the Sides of Me, Beauty Above Me, Beauty Below Me". from the Navaho Blessing Way Ceremony

Fly High Carla, Dear Sister; Fly Like the Eagle on Wings of Pure Light!

Orcas Island

Dear Editor,

I was very sad to hear of the troubles and finally death of Carla Shaffer. I knew her when I lived on Orcas Island; Carla had a huge heart and a wonderful sense of humor. Making each other laugh was one of our favorite pastimes. I know that she had major health problems and am so sorry to hear that she finally succumbed. I will always remember her for her whimsical ways, her artistic endeavors, her laughter and her ability to laugh at herself. My condolences to all who knew and loved her, and also to her family.
