KUDOS TO HELEN MACHIN-SMITH . . .
and the cast of the superb THE DRAWER BOY which takes place on an Ontario farm in 1972, where the color of truth is gray. An event not to be missed!

Today I witnessed a fantastic performance of The Drawer Boy as presented by Island Stage Left at the Fairgrounds. This play was sometimes quite funny, sometimes touching and full of love, and always well presented. Thanks to Island Stage Left for bringing such wonderful art to us. It is definitely a 'must see'.

That has to be one of the most absorbing plays ever.
We've just come home from seeing "The Drawer Boy" (as in a boy who draws).
My husband said, "Did you notice that I didn't move a muscle through the whole thing?", and our 12 year old grandson volunteered that it was the best play he had ever seen. It was funny, poignant, puzzling and thoroughly human. There are three more chances to see it at the fairgrounds 4H Theater: this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Do go!

I wanted to write to thank the people of this wonderful island for all their support for the arts and for personally making my two stays here so special.
I am an actor from Seattle who has appeared on San Juan Island in Island Stage Left's productions of "MUCH ADO " and currently in "THE DRAWER BOY ".
From the dear hopsitality of my dear, dear hosts, dave and sienna hare, to fellow actors, the arts community, and the community of san juan island as a whole; you have all grown in my heart.
I have so little to give back to all of you. All I have is my performance.
So, please, let me give that to you. I would love for you to attend one of the performances of THE DRAWER BOY at the fairgrounds that plays on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays until June 4th.
You should be proud of all the talent that is here on the island. I only wish that there could be less politics between various groups. Art in every respect should be applauded and supported. As Greg Falls, the founder of ACT theatre in Seattle was oft quoted, "Theatres are best grown in bunches, like grapes." And those vines should be tended by all, I feel.
My mother said to me recently, "You may never live full time on San Juan Island, but it's evident that your heart will always be there." Truer words were never spoken.
My heartfelt thanks,
Kevin C. Loomis

If you haven't seen The Drawer Boy yet, you are in for a wonderful treat! This play is engaging from beginning to end, is beautifully performed and directed, and deserves our enthusiastic support. There are still two weekends for this Stage Left event at the fairgrounds. Don't miss it!
