Canadian money worth more at Port

Canadians or anyone else with Canadian money will get a bargain on certain holiday weekends this year. The Port of Friday Harbor agreed to accept Canadian money on par wtih U.S. dollars for guest moorage on Canadian holiday weekends in 2003. Port Director Steve Simpson said, "We’ve lost most of our Canadian customers. We have space on those weekends."
The promotion covers recognized national and provincial holidays in Canada and British Columbia. The dates are:
- New Years Day, Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 at par
- Good Friday: April 18 at par
- Easter Monday: April 19, 20, 21 at par
- Victoria Day: May 16, 17 and 18 at par
- Canada Day: July 1 at par
- Labor Day: Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 at par
- Thanksgiving: Oct. 10, 11, 12 and 13 at par
- Christmas Day: Dec. 24, 25, 26, 27 and 28 at par
The promotion will run for one year beginning in February. The Port Commissioners will then review the outcome before deciding whether to continue with the idea.
