Pilots, community members and children eager to fly in a plane turned out for a celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Wright Brothers flight Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003. Organizer James Crossley pulled together the event which included displays of posters, airplane models, gear, remote control planes and free helicopter rides.

The event took place in the old terminal building at Friday Harbor airport. Crossley is working to turn the building into a museum/lounge for use by the public and general aviation pilots.

Merritt Deshon was dressed for the occasion but slept through most of the afternoon's events.

Refreshments were served including a cake decorated for the occasion.

Daisy Roth describes her flight to her dad.
