Port of Friday Harbor helps airlines

Business for the airlines serving Friday Harbor fell off following the Sept. 11 terrorist attack on the east coast. As a way of sharing the pain, Port of Friday Harbor Commissioners voted to not collect land lease payments or terminal facility rent for the month of September. This will save:
- Federal Express: $199.22
- Island Air: $94.05
- Kenmore Airlines: $157.14
- Northwest Seaplanes: $614.05
- West Isle Air: $697.38
Commissioner Greg Hertel acknowledged it wasn't a lot of money. "We're sending the message we want to help them and that we care about them," he said.
