C. John ChartersApril 16, 1924 - July 30, 2007 C. John Charters of Anacortes passed away Monday morning, July 30, 2007 in Mount Vernon, WA at the age of 83. He was born on April 16, 1924 in Grandmere, Quebec, Canada, the son of George and Christine (Pinault) Charters. John was raised in Camas, WA and attended Columbia Prep High School in Portland. Following high school, he attended the University of Portland and Loyola University. John served in the United States Army during WWII in New Guinea and Japan, and in the Korean Conflict, attaining rank of First Lieutenant. He was a loving father, storyteller, traveler, sportsman, and good friend. As a young man, John worked in heavy equipment sales in Nevada and California, and later in boat building and marine financing in Seattle and Anacortes. John loved the outdoors, hunting, sailing, and golfing. His Tacoma buddies used to call him “First Light” as he always was awake the earliest. Deeply religious, he was an active Catholic. He was blessed to have led an active, full life. John is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Patricia Charters of Sequim; sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Peter Van Hoomissen of Portland; children, Cyrus, Christine, Michael, Bridget and husband Christopher White, all of Seattle, Victoria Charters of Albuquerque, NM; one grandchild; and long time companion, Donna Brann. Rosary Service will be held at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, August 5, 2007 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mount Vernon. Funeral Mass will be held at 12:15 p.m., Monday, August 6, 2007 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mount Vernon. Interment will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington. Memorials may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 215 North 15th Street, Mount Vernon, WA, 98273.
