Carl Dittmer Wills

June 26, 1933 - February 2nd, 2008

Carl Wills passed away peacefully on February 2nd, 2008. Born June 26, 1933, in Los Angeles, California, he was the only son of Harry and Marie Wills. Carl was a proud American. After high school he worked for Boeing Aircraft until he enlisted into the US Marine Corps on January 7, 1953 and served three years of active duty and five years in the reserves. He was honorably discharged on January 6, 1961, having received the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and United Nations Service Medal.

Carl attended Principia College in Elsah, Illinois. Deciding it was too far from home; he transferred to Everett Junior College and earned his B.A. in Education at Western Washington University in 1960. Carl was a teacher of Industrial Arts in Mukilteo. He later worked in Klickitat School District. He then came to teach in Friday Harbor in 1971. Many island residents remember Carl as their Drivers Education teacher.

Carl was a very active member of the Christian Science Society in Friday Harbor where he often served on the Board, as organist, and as the First Reader. He loved to sing with his friends in the Islands Chordsmen Plus and was serving as their president.

Carl loved the Community Theatre and if he wasn’t in a production you would usually see him in the audience. His license plate, "SJ CATS," referred both to the Community Theatre Cats and to his feline family at home. Carl had lifelong friends from his work with the Boy Scouts of America. Always willing to help other people, Carl did volunteer work at the Mullis Community Senior Center.

It was Carl's wish not to have a memorial service.

"The most important thing in life is to live by the Ten Commandments"
