Clifford Sanctuary

January 2, 1920 - January 14, 2010

Clifford (Cliff) Sanctuary, beloved husband of Gill and father of Bryan and Catherine passed away peacefully at his home in La Conner on Thursday, January 14, 2010.

He was born in Beverley, Yorkshire on January 2, 1920 and served in the RAF throughout the Second World War. He joined the research team of Sir Watson Watt that successfully developed RADAR.

Following the war he joined Decca Radar (London) and was later transferred to Toronto where he established Decca Radar Canada and installed the first Radars at Canadian airports.

In 1959 he accepted a position at Del Mar Electronics in Los Angeles as Chief Engineer. He headed the team that developed the Holter Ambulatory heart monitor, now widely used by cardiologists.

Cliff retired in 1985 and moved to Shelter Bay where he served on the Board of Directors for six years, three years as President.

He and Gill were married for nearly 50 years.

He leaves two children, five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

At his request, no services will be held. Memorials may be made to Friends of the Library, PO Box 1285, La Conner, WA 98257.
