Curtis Don Cable

October 17, 1932 - November 22, 2007

After a short battle with cancer, Curt Cable died peacefully at his home in Long Beach with family by his side.

Curt was born in a log cabin in Roberts Idaho on October 17, 1932 to Don and Olive Cable. They later moved to Clarkston Washington where he completed high school. He joined the National Guard in 1949, just as it was activated for duty in Germany. He served the army as an infantry surveyor for his four years.

After returning home, he married Arlene Claire Mckissick on December 10, 1955. He worked as a surveyor for the Idaho Highway Department and later the City of Lewiston.

Daughter Terri was born in 1956, sons Ernie in 1958 and Steve in 1960. By 1967 Curt and Arlene were looking for a change and found it in the Seattle Times classifieds. Camp Nor’Wester on Lopez Island, the old Henderson Camp, was looking for a versatile caretaker with building experience. Curt landed the job and moved his family to the camp in December of 1967, where he worked for the next 10 years.

On Lopez he honed his hobbies of building, gardening and custom meat processing. Curt and Arlene moved from Camp Nor’Wester to their handbuilt Lopez cabin in 1977, to Arizona in 1982, and to Long Beach, Washington in 1989.

Arlene, by then his wife of 36 years, passed away in 1992. Curt stayed on in Long Beach, building a greenhouse and continuing his passion for gardening.

He is survived by sister Dorothy Hayes of Lewiston, ID, brother Lyle Cable of Clarktson, WA, daughter Terri Cable of Seattle, sons and daughter in-laws Ernie and Susan Cable of Douglas, AK and Steve and Jodi Cable of Clinton, WA, and four grandsons.

He will be greatly missed.
