Dr. Donald Jason JeannetApril 29, 1927 - September 26, 2009 Dr. Donald Jason Jeannet passed away, surrounded by family and loved ones, on September 26, 2009 in Friday Harbor. Donald was born in Portland, Oregon on April 29, 1927, the son of Gladys and Emil Jeannet. After graduating from Grant High School in Portland and serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, Donald followed in his father's footsteps and graduated from the University of Oregon School of Dentistry in 1950. Donald, his first wife Ann, and their young family moved in 1959 from Portland to San Juan Island in Washington, where he started a successful dental practice and helped raise four children. Donald entered a new phase of his life in 1973 when he moved to Los Angeles and became an instructor at the UCLA School of Dentistry, also serving as faculty sponsor for the Delta Sigma Delta dental fraternity. Donald remarried and spent the next 23 years with Mary. Donald also devoted himself to his twin loves of fly-fishing and swing music, spending many summers fishing in streams across the western United States and starting an eighteen-piece swing band, D.J.'s Doctors of Swing. After Donald's retirement from UCLA and Mary's passing in 1997, Donald married Anna and returned to the Pacific Northwest, where he rebuilt his vacation cabin and spent his final years fishing and enjoying his many friends on San Juan Island. Donald is survived by Anna; his sister Betty Petersen of Lake Oswego, Oregon; his sons Thomas and Charles and daughters Susan and Marie; Mary's children Donovan and Allison; Anna's children Ray and Barbara; and ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. His twin sister Dorothy preceded Donald in death. Donald is also remembered fondly by his many former patients, students, fly fishing buddies, his fellow musicians as well as those whom he entertained with his music, and his numerous friends. His passion for music and the outdoors and his devotion to his friends and family will be profoundly missed. Donald's family is grateful for the compassionate care he received at the Islands Convalescent Center. Donations in memoriam might consider Hospice of San Juan or the conservation programs sponsored by Trout Unlimited. At Donald's request there will be no service. Following cremation at Evans Funeral Home in Anacortes his ashes will be scattered by family at the isthmus to Davison Head. |
