Eleanor Jane Moore

October 4, 1922 - March 18, 2007

Eleanor Jane Moore, 84, of Lopez Island, Washington, died Sunday, March 18, 2007, at Island Hospital in Anacortes, from complications of Parkinson's disease. She was born on October 4, 1922 in Puyallup, Washington, the daughter of Wilfred and Edith (Austin) Robb. Eleanor was a young World War II widow, following the death of her first husband, an infantry officer, who was killed in Italy at Anzio Landing.

She joined the Red Cross, where for four years, she coordinated troop recreation and entertainment activities in Germany and Austria. During this time she met and became engaged to then, Captain Roy Moore. They were married at Fort Knox, Kentucky in 1949.

Eleanor was an outdoor enthusiast, mountain climber, rower, and camper. She traveled extensively in Europe and the Mediterranean. Upon her husband's retirement, the couple settled on Lopez Island at MacKaye Harbor.

Eleanor was a former officer of the Lopez Island Garden Club. She is survived by her husband, Colonel Roy Moore and her nephew, John Dragseth of Deerhaven, New Jersey.

Graveside services will be held at Lopez Union Cemetery at 1 p.m., Friday, March 23, 2007 with Pastor Morris Dalton officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Lopez Island Animal Protection Society, Wolf Hollow Center, on Friday Harbor, or to the Lopez Island EMT Association.
