Frank WilsonJanuary 4, 1946 - August 25, 2004
Frank Wilson, age 58, passed away at home on August 25, 2004 with his devoted wife, Janet, by his side. Frank was born on January 4, 1946 to Don and Rosaia Wilson of Friday Harbor. Frank was a sixth generation islander and spent his childhood growing up in Friday Harbor. After graduating from Friday Harbor High School in 1964 Frank joined the Marine Corps. During his four years in the service he did two tours in Vietnam and was awarded the Purple Heart. After being honorably discharged he moved back to Friday Harbor and in April of 1969 he met Janet, his wife of 34 years. They married on November 29, 1969 and their son, Bobby was born a year later in 1970 followed by their daughter, Molly in 1972. When Frank returned home from the service he joined the Friday Harbor Fire department, which kindled his interest in the Emergency Medical Services. In 1982 Frank became an EMT and the Chief of the San Juan Aid Unit. Frank enjoyed his work in the Aid Unit with a passion. In 1985 he was honored with firefighter of the year. Frank was also honored with EMT of the year in 1987 as well as that year’s Journal Citizen of the Year. Frank’s been a member of the American Legion since 1968 and was a commander for three years. Frank enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and friends at his cabin on the Columbia River. He was an avid fisherman and a many time prizewinner of the American Legion and King’s fishing derbies. Frank played first base for the Aid Unit’s softball team named the "No Codes." He had many joys in life but his four grandchildren, who affectionately referred to him as "Bubba." were the light of his life. Frank is survived by his wife Janet, son Bob Wilson and daughter Molly Wilson Finch, grandchildren Samantha Finch, Cady, Chase, and Cameron Wilson, sisters Donna Christensen, Joyce Jones and Kathleen Wilson, brothers John Wilson and Gene Wilson, many nieces and nephews, countless friends and the community that he loved so much. Graveside services will be held at the St. Francis Catholic Church Cemetery Saturday, September 4, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. Following the service please join the family for a potluck gathering at Frank & Janet’s home: 765 Larson Street, Friday Harbor.
