Gary Mansfield Ross

Sept. 10, 1941 - June 21, 2003

Gary Mansfield Ross, age 61 died at home with his wife, daughter, and good friends at his bedside. Gary put up a courageous battle with cancer and accomplished his goal to see his little girl graduate from high school.

Gary was born September 10, 1941 in Seattle, Washington. Gary met Claudia Harshbarger and was married in Idaho on May 14,1983. The two moved to Friday Harbor Washington just prior to the birth of their only child Julia Crystal Ross.

Gary went into the cable TV business with his high school friends and worked with people he loved and loved what he did. After retiring from cable vision he connected with his brother Dave Ross and worked at Aeronautical Services. Gary also drove a school bus. He could be found every holiday in the bucket truck hanging Christmas decorations around town.

Gary was a proud Legionnaire and a member of the Lions Club. Gary served his country for four years in the Navy on the Hornet. Gary loved the island and the many friends and family on and off the island. You may have seen the orange truck with the light on top and his dog Jazzper cruising the road to South Beach, with his favorite cold beverage in hand, for their daily attitude drive.

Most of the people who knew and loved Gary knew him for his smile, the wave he always had on the road, for friends and strangers alike, love of Mariner games, fishing with his brother Jimmy, bird watching and gardening. Gary had a zest for life and a determination to enjoy every day.

Gary is survived by his wife Claudia, their daughter Julia, his brothers Jim Ross, Dave Ross (his wife Judie), his sisters Kathy Pierre (her husband Dave), and Pat Okazaki (her husband Stan). He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends. Gary was preceded in death by his mother Rosemarie Ross and his father Leonard Ross.

Services will be held on Saturday June 28th at 2 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Friday Harbor, with a Celebration of Gary's love of life at South Beach following the service.
