OBITUARY Janet Robbins

Janet Robbins loved meeting, getting to know people

Nov. 27, 1932 - Oct. 18, 2007

Janet Robbins, a Friday Harbor native, passed away Oct. 18, 2007 at her Mount Vernon home. She was 74.

She spent the last year of her life very happy and content with her new family and friends at The Bridge.

She was born to Carl and Louise King in Friday Harbor on Nov. 27, 1932. Janet grew up on San Juan Island and graduated from Friday Harbor High School. She moved to Skagit County shortly after graduation.

She worked many years as a grocery checker at Thrifty Foods in Burlington. She loved meeting and getting to know customers while she worked.

Janet was an avid sports fan watching many teams, but especially found of the Seahawks, Mariners and women's college basketball. She recently went to her first Mariners game with friends and family. In her younger years, she enjoyed playing third base on a local women's softball team. More recently, she has taken her turns at winning the weekly bowling competitions at The Bridge.

She met and married Lyle Robbins in 1974 and moved to Big Lake. They spent many years together operating Rural Sanitation Service. After retiring, they enjoyed trips to Reno and the occasional cruise.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Louise King; and her husband, Lyle Robbins.

She is survived by her daughters, Terri (Jack) Estle, of Eatonville, Wash., and Ivana (Perry) Wood of Burlington, Wash,; and Lyle's daughter, Terry (Gary) Rowell of Burlington, Wash.

Her grandchildren include Janna Johnson, Trisha and Tyler Wood, Pam Abita, Debbie Anderson. She is also survived by several great-grandchildren; her sisters, Maggie King (Bette), Phebe (Bob) Hirschel and Mary Jean "Magee" King; her sister-in-law, Ann Flath; and good friend, Donna Mauvais.

The family would like to thank the staff at The Bridge for all their loving care and for making her last year a great one. Donations can be sent to The Bridge in Mount Vernon.

Viewing is scheduled Oct. 22, 2007, 2-7 p.m., at Hawthorne Funeral Home. Funeral service is scheduled Oct. 23, 2007, 11 a.m., at Hawthorne Funeral Home with a graveside service to follow.

A reception will follow in the Hawthorne Reception Room.

Arrangements are under the care of Hawthorne Funeral Home, 1825 E. College Way, Mount Vernon.
