John Fredrick HovardJuly 1, 1927 - June 2, 2009
John Fredrick Hovard was born on July 1,1927 in Pasadena California. Son of Richard and Martha Hovard who were both immigrants and passed through Ellis Island in their pursuit of the American dream. John was the youngest of five boys, Robert, Raymond, Ernest and Joseph. John always exuded a zest for life. He was ambitious and a high achiever. In his youth he was an eagle scout and put himself through Cal Berkley through his hard work and diligence. He joined the Merchant Marines and is a veteran of the Korean War. Upon graduating from college with a degree in finance, he met his life partner and future wife Gail Clingan. They were married in 1951 and raised five children together. John worked for 40 years for the United States Gypsum Company as the Northern California regional sales executive. After his retirement, he and his wife Gail settled in Anacortes, Washington. John was an avid golfer, WWII history buff and active member of the Trinity Anglican Church in Mount Vernon where he was an usher and participated in various church activities. One of John's most gracious achievements was his constant ability to bring happiness to others and his sense of humor and joy for life. He enjoyed family gatherings with his children and grandchildren. John is survived by his wife Gail, four brothers, Robert, Raymond, Ernest and Joseph Hovard, and their five children John (Darcy), Heidi, Christopher, William and Peter (Dorothy), and his six grandchildren Erin, Elysa, James, Alec, Tyler and Patrick. A memorial service will be held at Trinity Anglican Church, 1200 Cleveland Ave., Mount Vernon, on Saturday, June 13 at 11:00 am, with the Rev. Allan S. Graves officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to Trinity Anglican Church or Skagit Hospice. |
