OBITUARY

Joyce Marie Mallett Sink

April 6, 1922 to February 7, 2007

Joyce passed away peacefully at October House in Friday Harbor on February 7, 2007, after a long, long battle with cancer.

Joyce spent her formative years in Massachusetts and Ohio excelling in art. She graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in 1944 as one of the first women with a Bachelor of Arts in Industrial Design. In 1947 she married Mark Sink, moved to Santa Monica, California, where together they raised their three children.

Joyce retired to Friday Harbor in 1990 to live in her dream condo at Cannery Village with her sister Joan and to be closer to her daughter, son-in-law and grandson.

Joyce loved reading, sewing, knitting sweaters for family and friends, riding on the back of a tandem bicycle with her brother Charles and passionately discussing politics, especially with her son-in-law, Brad Pillow.

Joyce’s last years were spent in the loving care of the staff at October House, who greatly contributed to the quality of her life.

Joyce is survived by her sister Joan Breen inWiesbaden, Germany, brother Charles Mallett in Melbourne, Australlia, daughter Liz Pillow in Friday Harbor, sons Steven Sink in Los Angeles and Charles Sink in Friday Harbor, grandson Kris Samonas, granddaughter Marieke Danniau and great-grandson Elliot Finn Noble Samonas, all in Friday Harbor.
