Grosjacques shows students sheep shearing

Catherine Grosjacques is a Friday Harbor High School Senior, track star, 4-H Junior Leader, 4-H member and "Farmer of the Month". Two years ago she was one of three youth who joined adults from around the state at "Sheep Shearing School".

On March 19 and 25, 2003, she demonstrated her skill to Friday Harbor Elementary School second and third graders at the San Juan County fairgrounds. In addition to the shearing demonstrations, Grosjacques answered many questions about sheep and wool.

Students turn wool fiber into felt

Every second grader at Friday Harbor Elementary School had an opportunity to turn wool fiber into felt flowers and coasters under the expert direction of master felter Candy Hoeschen. This hands-on lesson was part of the second grade School Farm fiber unit.
